1. RAID-1 Redundancy
Nameway® employs state-of-the-art IBM®/Dell® servers with RAID-1 redundancy.
RAID-1 dual disk drive redundancy means that when a hard drive fails the
server instantly and seamlessly switches to a mirrored hard drive, avoiding
any service interruption. Constant server monitoring ensures your data is
kept safe and that your hosted websites maintain maximum operational status.
RAID-1 Benefits: Provides 100% data redundancy. Should one drive fail,
the controller simply switches reads and writes to the other drive. RAID-1
provides complete data redundancy. RAID-1 is ideal for any application that
requires fault tolerance and minimal capacity.
2. Reliable SCSI Drives
All of Nameway's® servers utilize hot swappable Seagate or IBM SCSI Ultra-3
(Ultra160/m) 10,000 RPM (Revolutions per Minute) hard drives. Nameway® isn't
like other web hosting providers who reduce costs by using ATA/IDE drives.
Our servers only use SCSI drives. SCSI has many benefits over ATA/IDE and
is not just faster than ATA/IDE, it is also more costly and efficient in
terms of reading and writing. The method by which SCSI drives access the
disk means that the physical drive mechanics don't have to work so hard
to read or write data. Tests show that SCSI drives last much longer than
ATA drives which is also a fact indicated by higher Mean Time Between Failure
(MTBF) figures for SCSI drives. In terms of versatility, speed and reliability,
SCSI is the better choice.
Summary: Hard drive failures are common in the web hosting industry. Shopping
for a web host can be complex and you should make sure they utilize high
quality hardware parts and have some sort of redundant storage system in
place to ensure your data is secure.
